We spent a week at the Hoose and it was a real home from home. Helmsdale is a great location for exploring the area. We managed to go fishing, horse riding, gold panning, climb Ben Braggen, visit John O'Groats and even had a glorious day of sunshine on the beach in Golspie! Whilst Brora and Golspie nearby have lovely beaches, we found Helmsdale quieter and more relaxing. It was just bliss after a day's activities to come home, get a glass of wine and sit at the front of the hoose, just watching the sea or reading our books.
A week full of lovely family memories. Highly recommended.

Liked best: View from the front of the hoose
Liked least: The long drive for us to get there but it was worth it!
Would I recommend this holiday rental to my best friend? Yes.
Recommended for: people with disabilities, older travellers, families with young children, people with pets.
The property was "as advertised" and I recommend the location. The property was good value for the price paid.

A "Trip Advisor" online review 2 August 2011 from a family with young children

Thank you for making The Hoose available to us. It is a delightful place and served us well as a base for completing our Land's End to John O'Groats walk. Everything worked well and the radios and good reading lights in the bedrooms were particularly appreciated. The only casualty of our stay was one wine glass which broke in the dishwasher.
We hope you have a good season.

I'm only back in the office today and boy do I wish I was still in Helmsdale!!!

We had a brilliant time and The Hoose was a fantastic place to stay in. We really enjoyed the experience and I loved sitting on the seat outside the house, watching the boats and the sea while sipping a chilled glass of white wine. Bliss!

My two boys had a great time at the harbour and cycling around the village. We fitted in horse riding, a climb to the Duke of Sutherland's monument, gold panning, Dunrobin Castle and a trip to John O'Groats. Even managed a day on the beach in glorious sunshine. Thanks for all the helpful leaflets in the pack.

Don't worry about posting back the dressing gown. Happy for it to go in a charity bag. Thought I'd doubled checked to ensure we had everything packed but I guess a wee part of me must have wanted to stay. Thanks again for the use of your Hoose. I'll be putting plenty of good comments about it on the website when I get a chance.

We arrived home safely after a perfect week's holiday at The Hoose. Thank you so much for the use of your lovely cottage - setting perfect, clean & very well equipped, friendly neighbours, especially old Jim who had lots of stories to tell us, and George who was very approachable. We followed some of Colin's comments which were very helpful and accurate, and we enjoyed the lovely scenery. We really enjoyed sitting at the front door with our glass of wine enjoying the weather and the view. Jake, our dog was very much at home. All in all a great chill-out week which we were really needing, and we would love to revisit in the future. Thanks to Barbara, who we never met, for preparing the cottage for our visit. The welcome pack was more than we expected.

We wrote our comments in the book, and will comment on Trip Advisor. Thanks again.

We returned from The Hoose on Saturday after having a superb week, your cottage was very comfortable with everything we needed, very well equipped, the best we have had to date, thank you.

Our friend with MND managed very well with having the bedroom downstairs and the bathroom.

We loved the area and will return, Sutherland was a beautiful County, just wish we had visited before now, as suggested by yourselves we drove around Glen Loch and saw Red Deer and Eagles, Colin is an ardent birdwatcher so we know they were Golden Eagles, we also went to the Falls of Shin and saw the Salmon, brilliant as was everything else we saw, Castles, Distilleries, Scenery and most of all the people were so friendly. Many thanks

Just to say a big thank you for the use of the Hoose. It was a great week. Hoose was brilliant.
Think we may be looking at a week or two next year! Thank you

The Hoose, its setting, Helmsdale and the people gave us all a great holiday.

We had gathered to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday (he lives near Elgin which allowed his young grandchildren to visit and enjoy a party / bar-b-q in the lovely back garden). We bought lobster on the pier, enjoyed the chat in the two bars, had good fish and chips, good meals in the Bridge, great walks, nice drives, a round of golf and more sunny
days than wet ones..

If I know anyone heading to that area I will definitely recommend 'the Hoose in Helmsdale'. Regards
